چکیده

Direct liquid fuel cells (DLFCs) are proposed to address the problems of high cost and complex storage transportation hydrogen in traditional hydrogen–oxygen proton exchange membrane cells. However, present fuels organic small molecules used DLFCs restricted sluggish electrochemical kinetics easily poisoning precious metal catalysts. Herein, we demonstrate reduced phosphotungstic acid as a for based on its advantages chemical stability, activity common carbon material electrodes, low permeability through membranes. The application effectively solves anode catalysts serious permeation loss DLFCs. A cell achieves peak power density 466 mW cm?2 at voltage 0.42 V good stability current densities range from 20 200 mA cm?2.

Functionalized and Electrospun Polymeric Materials as High-Performance Membranes for Direct Methanol Fuel Cell: A Review

Proton exchange membranes (PEM) for a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) have main drawbacks which are methanol permeability, reduced proton conductivity and the cost of the membrane. This paper reviews different polymeric materials such as fluorinated, non-fluorinated, acid-base complex, and composite membranes for DMFC. Currently, nonfluorinated membranes gain a lot of atte...

A direct borohydride—Acid peroxide fuel cell

A fuel cell operating with aqueous sodium borohydride and hydrogen peroxide streams, with one, two and four cells (electrode area 64, 128 nd 256 cm2) connected in a bipolar mode in a filterpress flow cell is reported. The oxidation of borohydride ion was carried out on Au/C particles upported on a carbon felt electrode while the reduction of hydrogen peroxide was carried out on carbon supported...

A Micro Direct Methanol Fuel Cell with Self-pumping of Liquid Fuel

This paper introduces a micro direct methanol fuel cell (μDMFC) with an imbedded self-pumping mechanism to deliver liquid fuel. The fuel is propelled without any power consuming component (e.g., a pump), while removing the CO2 bubbles generated by the fuel-cell electrochemical reaction of the system. Furthermore, the pumping rate is self-regulated by the reaction, i.e., by the load. By eliminat...

High power density microbial fuel cell with flexible 3D graphene-nickel foam as anode.

The structure and electrical conductivity of anode play a significant role in the power generation of microbial fuel cells (MFCs). In this study, we developed a three-dimensional (3D) reduced graphene oxide-nickel (denoted as rGO-Ni) foam as an anode for MFC through controlled deposition of rGO sheets onto the nickel foam substrate. The loading amount of rGO sheets and electrode surface area ca...

Integration of a Vanadium Redox Flow Battery with a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell as an Energy Storage System

The proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell is a green energy producer which converts chemical energy to electricity in high yield. Alternatively, the vanadium redox flow battery (VRB) is one of the best rechargeable batteries because of its capability to average loads and output power sources. These two systems are modeled by Nernst equation and electrochemical rules. An effective energy gene...
